What page rank is in layman's terms is? The link analysis element used by Web entity- Google search engine that relates to a numerical equivalent to each element of hyperlink documents. Usually page rank tells the purpose of measuring documents relative importance within it's or the set of inclusion. The algorithm of page rank can also be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references.
Page rank is a trademark of Google and the page rank process holds a US patent to US Stanford University and Google holds the exclusive license rights on the patent. Google always change the algorithm of page rank as ways of avoiding unwanted popularity of penalize websites.
Page rank uses its vast link structure to indicate an individual's page value. As Google interprets a link from a page to another one, it will look at it more than the sheer number of votes or links a received by a page, but also the page that casted the votes- hence making it as sort of ballot among all other pages on the web where a vote of support is seen in a hyperlink. A page that is linked to by many pages with high rank will receive a high rank itself. Provided there are no links to a web page then there is no support to it.

Remember that a page rank is influenced by the quantity and quality of incoming links and outgoing links from one's site as well as search words relevance on the page and actual visits reported by Google toolbar.
